Mineral Exploration and Consultancy Limited (MECL) is a premier Mini Ratna (Category-I) Central Public Sector Enterprise under the administrative control of the Ministry of Mines, Government of India. Incorporated in October 1972, MECL has stood as the nation's foremost agency for systematic exploration of mineral resources, bridging the crucial gap between regional geological mapping and commercial mineral exploitation.
Operating across India with modern drilling rigs, state-of-the-art geophysical logging suites, and advanced NABL-accredited analytical laboratories, MECL plays a vital role in national raw material security, mineral auction block preparation, and geoscientific consultancy.
Our Official Mandate
MECL's mandate encompasses planning, promoting, and executing systematic exploration for all major mineral commodities—including coal, lignite, base metals, bauxite, iron ore, limestone, gold, and critical & strategic minerals (Lithium, REE, Cobalt)—in India and internationally, establishing commercial reserves and providing end-to-end mining consultancy.
Organizational Structure
Headquartered at Nagpur (Maharashtra), MECL is organized into specialized divisions: Exploration Division, Drilling Division, Geophysical Surveys & IT, Chemical & Petrographic Laboratories, Mining & Technical Services, and Commercial & Business Development, supported by Regional Maintenance Centres at Hingna (Nagpur) and Ranchi.
